Grand Mistress Storyteller - Sylvia is a dramatist (dramatic teller of tales). Folktales, original material, audience participation and African musical instruments are interwoven in her masterfully crafted performances. This multi-cultural performance artist engages the audience as she spins tales from long ago, present or the future. The educational and inspirational content of her repertoire evokes a feeling of connection, pride, romance, safety, relaxation and fun. Her diverse cultural experiences bring depth of understanding and breadth of compassion.
McConico incorporates into her performances over thirty years of experience/skills as a broadcaster, spiritual advisor, actress, sales professional, puppeteer, and peace activist.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California in Irvine.
Grand Mistress Storyteller is a published writer with some of her stories included in Collectively Creatin’, an anthology by African American Writers and Artists Inc. of San Diego.
Black Storytellers of San Diego, Inc. welcomed Sylvia as a founding member and she served four years as secretary/treasurer. Sylvia served as Program Director for Kids on the Block of San Digeo, an international educational puppet program.
